  • This route is intended to be a solo, unsupported run. Though it could be potentially run with a group, since this route traverses state and national parks, you will have to research the laws and limitations of running in a group. We want to ensure that we are not only exploring the beauty of the Cape but also protecting it and practicing leave no trace principles.

  • Every runner requires different gear, but the most important item for this race is good shoes that work well for running in the sand. Other than that, whatever food you require for energy and water. I recommend 3 (12 oz) bottles, there are many opportunities to refill your bottle along the way, since you are never far from roads on the route. Bathrooms are available around much of the course, though, if you choose to run in the off-season those facilities may be closed.

  • According to FKT.com, “Self-Supported means you may have as much support as you can manage or find along the way, but not from any thing or person just for you; any support you employ must be equally available to anyone else. This can range from caching supplies in advance, purchasing supplies along the way, staying at motels, to finding or begging for food or water.”

  • You can run this at any time you would like, but during late fall, winter, and early spring, the temperatures can be quite cold making it potentially dangerous, and likely very unpleasant. Many facilities are also closed at this time of the year. I recommend running this during September or October, when the weather is still mild, and the water is still warm.

  • I have had the opportunity to run many courses where the challenges were based on elevation, terrain, and climate, to name a few. This is the first course I have run where the gravitational pull of the moon on the tide represents a unique challenge to even the most experienced runner. It requires a different type of planning, preparation, and approach than other runs, while also having natural pit stops along the way for water, food and restrooms, making it an ideal route for an individual runner.

  • The fastest known run time is 20 hours 39 mins and 11 secs by Alex Guglielmetti (who created the race) in September 2021.
